Advot in Action

June 2024

This year, Advot impacted over 900 students and led over 700 classes. We served 20 sites across the county. And this feels like just the beginning.

As another season of programming ends, this month, I wanted to, once again, spotlight some of the art, writing, and testimonials from our students.

Through our work, we hope these students begin to understand that their voice is their power. They can make change. They matter. They are worthy to take up space, make themselves heard, and thrive.

Thank you for your support this year. We are excited for an incredible upcoming summer and year ahead!

“What I have learned is if you are patient, things will fall into place, what’s meant for you will come to you when God thinks you're ready. I hope you will stay strong and keep ya head up high, and be proud of yourself for everything you've overcome in life. Most people would have given up already, but you didn't. If anyone ever doubts you or your ability to become successful, prove them wrong!” --Homeboy Art Academy student

“What I have learned is this is not the end of my story. Only the beginning and all my trials and tribulations have made me into the woman I am today. I hope you will get out there and make something of yourself. Despite whatever you go through, don’t give up.” --Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall student

“Dear younger self,

First, I would like you to know that you are pretty and strong. Even if things turn out bad or good, that is the case. Don’t pay attention to others and what they say because it only affects them. When I was little, I danced a lot and it was so much fun. Now, when I grow up, I want to be a cook.

Love, older self” --Boys and Girls Club of Mar Vista Gardens, middle school student
